Weight loss surgery patient support group 1st Birthday

BMI The Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle held its 1st Birthday for the weight loss surgery (WLS) patient support group meeting on Wednesday 7 May 2008.

Meetings are free to attend and no pre-registration is required and we encourage people to walk by and 'pop-in' and take part. The annual meeting in May was in a 'Question Time' format with a guest panel including bariatric consultants, specialist bariactirc nurses, dietitians, cosmetic consultants, personal trainer and former patients amongst others to cover a wide range of topics that are associated with obesity and weight loss surgery.

Our weight loss surgery patient support groups aim to inform individuals, and also their friends and family, who are considering weight loss surgery (WLS), about gastric banding and gastric bypass operations to help combat obesity.

We have a regular monthly support group meeting which all start at 7:30pm in the restaurant at The Alexandra Hospital whereby these meetings offer the opportunity for patients to meet, discuss in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere and feel confident with the hospitals experienced bariatric surgeons and after-care support team.

The Alexandra Hospital only works with 'gold standard' Bariatric (Obesity) surgeons who are specialists in upper gut and stomach using laparoscopic (keyhole) techniques. They are experienced at working in the NHS and are members of The British Obesity Surgery Society (BOSS). Our Bariatric surgeons are Mr Basil Ammori, Mr Michael van den Bossche, Mr Anselm Agwunobi, Mr Khursid Akhtar and Mr Bart Decadt

As surgery is just part of the process, we offer a comprehensive aftercare programme to help our patients stay healthy and achieve the best results. Our consultants offer personal ongoing care and support from a team of specialists before, during and long after surgery.
